Twenty-One - a double etheree

Missing image

They
went to
the world for
preaching, teaching
touching those lonely
healing the deaf and blind
bringing Good News to all men.
Forgetting themselves; serving God.
Those that went are now persecuted.

~ Twenty-one Missionaries Held Hostage ~

their loss is hardly remembered this day.
Saints waiting in prison for your prayers.
Why are we silent speechless mute?
Why won't we all scream loudly

for them to be made free?
God help us help them!
Let's join in prayer
for workers
of God's
will.

Author notes

"These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore, they are before the throne of God and serve him day and night in his temple; and he who sits on the throne will spread his tent over them. Never again will they hunger; never again will they thirst.
The sun will not beat upon them, nor any scorching heat."

~ Revelations 7:14-16

Very nice sentiment. I never even heard of this actually. This piece is very visually appealing. It seems short and to the point. I feel like this is more of a proclamation or call-to-action than a poem. Although it was decently written, and I do appreciate the spirit of it. Keep writing

It is a poem, a call-to-action, and a call for praying people to pray for the safe release of these people.

Thanks so much for the comment and the read.

Thought I had commented on this one before, but do not see it here- it always seems the innocent are in the wrong place at the wrong time and are taken hostage or killed in places where they normally would not be. Like this form and you have used it well to get your point across here.

Whilst I am sympathetic for these misguided people's fates, what on Earth where they doing in Afghanistan? Were they not aware it is quite a dangerous place? Especially for those preaching against the strongly held religious beliefs of the inhabitants. Will people never learn?

One will not be able to read the poem without thinking of them in prayer. What a wonderful way to assure this. The win is for them and a blessing for you who wrote this. You tell us what they do and did, you tell us where they are and you call upon us to never forget them. Bless you.

I love the way you set this up, in a shape, and the pictures. So sad and thoughtful. It would be so nice to see a complete resolution, but prayer is powerful!

Yes, I am well aware of this as I am involved with the Suffering Church ... this is a beautiful piece you have penned here. It is important that more and more people pray for the wider Church ... so many Christians are being persecuted. We have to ask ourselves ... what if it was/is us? I'm delighted to see this in the POD and I wish you all the very best. This is very well crafted. You certainly have my vote! xx

      Thank you Beth.

It really hit home when I saw the pictures of their beautiful faces. With my Church going on the mission trip to Romania, I have really been praying for missionaries. It is wonderful that you are involved with the Suffering Church. I do have to open my own eyes to what is happening in the world and see with the eyes of the Holy Spirit. It is heart breaking.

    I too had forgotten

Thank you first for the reminder to keep them in my prayers. I think the shape of the poem adds to its message. Like a diamond in the rough, these men and women are being polished into the most brilliant of all gems. You stayed on topic throughout. Clear, concise, and to the point. Very well done as usual.

This touched me deeply. I have read of their plight. It is heart breaking but not surprizing in this crazy world where being a Christian has become a liability. Those who remain strong and faithful will have eternity. Wonderful work here. I am praying. Love Debby

I absolutely loved this entry ~

First off....you are missing some syllables...but I can not

tell you where they are at....you have to find them ~

Next, I applaud you for being able to go from one line

to the next without hesitation ~

A Double Etheree is one of Favorite Forms ,

and you did this one justice ~

I am not sure as to why you decided to separate your lines,

but it does not say that you can't ~

But remeber...these Forms were created for the aesthetic

eye appeal it would have on their leaders of their countries as Gifts ~

To keep the diamond shape is most important ~

The Theme behind this is a no-brainer ~

    Perfect ~

The depths...well, Iam ashamed to say I did not even know,

therefore it took me somewhere....good job ~

    You flow is Perfect ~

Presentation is 95 % of the job with *Formed* Poetry ~

You did well with this Poet ~

I wish you the best in this POD,

and I shall place these 21 Missionaries on my Prayer list ~

    God Bless ~

Whether I count in total, line by line, or word by word, there are 110 syllables in this piece. So I looked at my grammar and fixed the adverb in line 14 from loud to loudly. The word "twenty-one" is 3 syllables unless you remove the hypen, then it is two??? But "twentyone" is not a word so I am stumped if ther are more syllables missing according to Wordscount!

The breaks were in there before for two reasons - one, I am still fighting the urge to write in stanzas - two - I thought the breaks made the whole diamond shaped looked broken thus symbolizing the situation of the missionaries. I have compromised and I think I do like it better this way. Now the two breaks in the diamond shape represent a gem cut off from the rest of the world. Does that make sense? It does look a lot better.

I am glad you liked this Bear! When I saw their beautiful faces, I had to write for them.

    A Convicting Write...

...I find myself flinching as I read it. This is the glaring reality of selfless service to the one true God. Your words seem very carefully chosen, almost borne of a personal conviction.

While the majority won't support what these missionaries are doing because of a disdain for their message, the rest are simply selfish, lazy and apathetic. A small minority is probably interceding in their behalf.

Solid blending of theme and form. The subject is powerful enough on its own; the carefully controlled form helps support meaning.
