Scars Are For Life

I know you are hurting
It's not easy watching your parents choose favorites.
I know you are disappearing
Things that once made you happy are becoming regretful.
You feel like giving up
Numbness is everything but nothing
You wish to rid yourself of the memories
Scarring your flesh
The only pedastal you can control
You feel like I'm the only one you can tell
My tongue feels dead
What do I say to that
The dam of tears breaks onto your eyelashes
I look at your arms for the first time

Did you know that they meant it
When they said "scarred for life"
The memories won't leave
Simply by writing the words unspoken on your arms
Because every scar has a story
Scars are for life
Just a memory revealing reality

A friend of mine confided in me that she started cutting herself again. I hadn't known that she has done this before. She is like the younger sister I've never had so this hit me like a ton of bricks. What do you say to someone you love who feels that the world has forgotten them??
