After The Affair

Adultery.
You despised that one, seemingly small word
I spoke of it's scarlet shame once
And you spit it out of your repulsed mouth
With malice and utter loathing
So it appears very ironic that the single thing
You hated so intensely is the same thing
That tore us apart.

The visions of your tearful confession
Plagued my nauseated mind.
Your pleas to allow yourself back into my life
Echoed within my hollowed out heart.
I incessantly chanted to myself
That a crime must be met with a punishment
That no matter how you tried to woo me again
Or how long you desperately wanted to persuade me.
Wishing to make me believe that you made a mistake
That I was the best thing that ever happened to you.

My pride was so strong that I could not be touched
But then I was so vulnerable when your body
Stood mere inches from mine
And admitedly I missed you more than
What should be considered healthy.
And then my resolve weakened
When our eyes locked and I couldn't escape
The true sincerity and passion I saw.
Soon my trusted friends and family
Wanted to believe your promises
And then I began my path back to you.
My anger started to subside
And my scars faded.

I finally decided to take an act of love
Rather than that of pride
And I did feel wonderful when
I saw your thrilled face at my choice
You proclaimed that I was your angel, your joy
Throwing your delighted arms around me
But still I could see the judgements
Others cast upon me, as I lost their respect
Their ominous figures loomed above me
As if to say that you could not be trusted
That I once swore to banish you.
And I couldn't help but wonder

Does forgiveness make me a saint or a fool?

Wow, I like the last line that you wrote. I like the whole thing, but the last line really brings it together. Writing about an affair was a good idea, you explained it with so much emotion that I could feel like I was there with the two as they talked.
    Nice job!

    Excellent

I would say a saint for it was the fool you showed the ultimate gift of love to . Now he knows what it truly is

This is a great write! I love the gradual twist from loathing him to forgiving him. And a very great question to pose at the end of poem. There will always be those people close to you that will never trust someone who hurts you again. Again very great write!! Thanks for sharing! Good luck in the contest
