Ode to Autumn

Here in God’s cathedral
I’ve come to eulogize
the passing of a season…
the feast before my eyes.

Silent waters briefly dyed,
wash across the land
with pigments that could only be
created by God’s hand.

A symphony of colors
crimson, gold and green
Autumn dies with passion
like I’ve seldom seen.

burgundy is bursting,
but yellow leaves no doubt
winter will not wrap the world
in ice without a shout

Amber leaves waft slowly,
umber’s no longer bound
scarlet slips through branches,
till they mingle on the ground

Gilded by the sunshine,
shimmering with dew
echoes on the water,
replicate each hue.

Sentimental breezes
start a wistful whispering
from fragile foliage forest
for the blooms held in spring.

Garnet, emerald, ruby
these are the jewels we see
but their sparkle here is fleeting
they can’t live without the tree.

I stand near the tranquil river
silver streaming down my face
immersed in the heaven
of God’s most sacred place

    Well written! Beautiful!

    AngelSeeker,

This was a very uplifting piece.
The images that you painted in my mind were very vivid! I adored that!!!
Autumn is a great season because it is not too hot and not too cold. The trees turn different colours as do the leaves that fall. Perfect as can be!!! They just seem endless!

Thank you so much for sharing this piece!! It made me think of past memories and how wonderful they were!

    Good luck in the contest!

Keep on writing from the heart and soul!

    Sincerely,

    Nelak

    BRAVO, ANGELSEEKER!!!!!!!!

This is an excellent poem. You did a wonderful job of capturing the beauty of Autumn, which is my favorite season. You have also proven that good rhyming poetry is not a dying breed. I love the images you have created here. Great job on this poem!
