Sam and The Little Laughing Man

One day
A bright day
Sam went down to the river to play
Down through fields!
Down through the woods!
Down the little path that winds and curves!

He came to the river
He reached it at last
and then
out of nowhere
something
started...to laugh!

Sam tilted his head
He tilted it this waaay and thaaat
Then that way and then this way
and any other whichway

He looked up at the sky
big, big blue
he looked through the grass
and the ant piles too!

He looked waaay up high...
He looked waaay down low....

Under rocks
and pebbles
and even his toes!

Sam climbed
a very tall tree
branch by branch
one...
two...
three!
until he reached the very-tip-tip-top
Sam looked
and Sam looked
and what did Sam see?

Sam saw a little man
standing on a hill
A little man, with a long, long beard
standing on a hill

Sam climbed down the tree
Put back all the rocks and pebbles
Raaan up the path
The little path
the path that winds and curves

Sam raaaan to the woods!
Sam ran THROUGH the woods!
Sam ran faaaaaast!
Fast through the woods!

He ran through the fields
Faster..faster...

Sam ran up the hill
and then..
and then...

no one was there!

Sam looked to his left
Sam looked to his right
but he was quite certain
no one was in sight!

Sam turned around
in a BIG WIDE circle
He saw infront
and behind...
over and under
until Sam tripped!
Sam tumbled!

Down the hill tumbled so fast!
Head over heels
Sam made the fields rather flat!

Sam tumbled through the woods
past Cherry trees
and Blackberry bushes

Sam tumbled DOWN the path
The little path
The path that winds and curves

Sam tumble
and he tumbled
and he TUMBLED!

Would Sam ever stop?
Sam was afraid NOT!
He held on tightly for fear he might burst
Sam held his breath
and FEARED for the WORST!

Craaaashhhhh!!

Sam fell
He fell with a splash!

Standing up, shaking and wet
Sam's mommy walked over.
this was worse yet!

What are doing?
Why are you clothes wet?

Sam tried to explain
He tried to tell her!
Sam told in great detail
how he heard distant laughter

His mother frowned
and narrowed her eyes

Thats quite enough!
Sam I've had enough of your stories tonight!

You had your dinner!
You had your bath!
This is quite enough Sam!
Go!
Straight to bed!

So Sam walked.
Sam walked up the path
That path that winds and curves

Sam walk through the woods and the fields

Sam went up the hill
Into the house on the hill
To his room in the house on the hill
and Sam laid in bed.

How could this happen Sam wondered?
How could this be?
When, all, of a sudden
Sam heard someone
Someone-
LAUGHING!

Looking to his window
he jumped in fright
There stood the little man
he had two, big, old button eyes!

His little red coat, was old from use
and he had two little hooves instead of two little shoes!

Come out! he beckond
Come out and play!

No! said Sam
I won't!
I've had enough of you today!

Sam took the little man
tucked him under his arm
Held him close to his chest
like a goodluck charm.
You bad toy!
It's time for us to go to bed!
And Sam's mommy pulled the covers
up 'round their heads.

Goodnight!

Wow what a great story! A very captivating write, full of intrigue and my son was sitting right on the edge of his seat right to the very end! And believe me, my son has the shortest attention span I have ever seen, so that is a huge thing for him to sit through a read as long as yours.
Thank you for taking the time to enter, and all the best of luck.
