Waiting for more apples
One moos, if you can call it that
I hear no “m” in the sound he makes
And I call back in the growly eeeeeeerrrrr
I hear in his voice
He calls back louder
I do the same
And he is done for now
I wonder what it is I said to him
As I pick the blueberries
Which seem to have no end
My thoughts scatter about
In broken rhymes
Never completing a thought
Before beginning another
Or so it seems
And it all appears so poetic to me
Yet I cannot speak the words out loud
or write them down
For they are here and gone
Without a sound
In the silence of not speaking
I hear the sounds of the world
A broken branch, I turn my head
And a bird flies away
Fluttering from one place to the next
Without rhyme or reason it seems
Though I know I am wrong
There must be a hundred different
Songs singing in the trees
The cackling of a crow
Breaks the beauty of the birds
A scavenger announcing his presence
So he is not forgotten
As the cows relentlessly stare
With their blank look
I stare back
Wondering what they are thinking
These cows so unfortunate
To be born in a society
Where they will be devoured
Just a piece of meat
While other cows are born
In a place where they are sacred
Are people not born the same way?
Some fortunate to be born in peace
Some born in war and unrest
No choice of their own?
The silence is not so silent
My voice does not speak
Yet there is so much being said
In the ponds, in the trees
The wind carries a chorus
Of the creatures and civilization
Combined
The frog croaks his lonesome groan
As the rush of distant cars go by
The coyotes howl at the sound
Of sirens passing by
They always do this
I wonder why
The cows still stare
Waiting for another treat
Unaware of the fate they’ll meet
Another rustling in the trees
I turn my head
To see the squirrel climbing
Eager to rise above the rest
Where do squirrels nest?
I wonder
The cat that caught the chipmunk
Enters my head
I thought he was dead
But Grandpa said
He dropped that chipmunk
And it ran away
He was just playing dead
Sure convinced me
I was sure he was gone
Limp as can be
Cat playing games with it
Tossing it around
With its paws
And all the while
It was still alive
Playing a game of chance
That it could survive
How does a chipmunk
Know to do this?
Author notes
I will probably add to this as random thoughts fill my head while I'm out picking blueberries on our 5 acres. These are just a fraction of the thoughts my mind wanders in and out of while I'm out there, too many to put them all down, and boy would that be a LONG write. I can't even remember them all, fluttering thoughts here and there, amazing how the mind works when at "rest."

Deep and delightful thoughts here and I am amazed! I am so impressed by this poem… made me really appreciate your talent. The imagery here is so fine! A poem that makes the reader think and admire.
You see so much.

Thanks, Marilynn.
Worked outside in the yard today and made me feel much better, been cooped up too long with the cold icky weather. Working outside revitalizes my soul. That had nothing to do with blueberry picking, 'cause that was a long time ago, but come summer they'll be ripe once more... will have to wrap them with bird netting this year, as we got a couple of good crops and then went out the next time and they were ALL GONE! I'm sure the birds were happy, but dang it we missed out on a lot of good blueberries!

You live in the Garden of Eden.
I am so glad for you.

That is something I need to remember every single day and be completely grateful. Thanks for the reminder.

Miss Buddy if this is where your mind wanders to
when you're out walking then those five acres have
proven to be your muse. I'm so impressed I'm
speechless!!!! and no mention, not even a whiff
of a fart... hummm? me thinks the country is good
for you. Good going girly, being a hermit seems
to agree with you.

Dear Dr. LAPoe,
Thank you so much for visiting my silly page of random thoughts. I do dare to say that my farting days may be over, but it is probably just a temporary situation so will make no drastic changes until I am sure there are no more farts left in me. Also, one must consider that with so much clean, fresh air, when one does fart it may dissipate so fast as to go unnoticed.
All my best,
Miss Buddy

Ah yes, but with all those blueberries gurgling round
inside you, me thinks something smelly is rising on that country
horizon...
Remember a rose never smelled so sweet
as when it has been fertilized.

When you see the blue haze across the horizon... that'd be me. At least during this season. In a few weeks, the plums will be ready, then it will be a haze with a purple hue.
Well, transparents are ready now, too, what color do you get when you mix transparent apples with blueberries? Just a more subtle shade of blue?

You have cows near where you live? that's crazy...I sort of do...but I don't like them. This is a long write but hey it's ok because I love Kim writes!!! <3 LOVE YOU.

Yep, cows, Rosita Bonita! Four "moo cows."
Right over the fence by the apple orchard. They sure like the apples. If you stick one out in front of them they'll stick out their HUGE tongues, all slobbery, trying to get the apple. EEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWW!
