I love to create poems

I love to create poems

I started writing poetry five years ago.
At first I found I wasn’t very good
and tried so hard to make my verses flow.
I persevered and did the best I could.

As time went past I found some poets to bond,
became close friends with love of poetry shared.
I wrote straight from my heart and they'd respond.
From that day forth, I've stayed with friends who cared.

And then I met a man, a poet true blue,
who told me that my poetry had beauty
and, to myself I always must be true,
for that is every poet's solemn duty.

That man was Hugh, my mentor and my King.
He gave me love of words that filled my soul.
His rhyme and rhythm made me want to sing
his praises as my poems began to roll.

I still have much to learn, I know that’s true
but now I write with gladness in my heart,
so thankful that I met this man named Hugh.
I vowed to make him proud, right from the start.

I've persevered till, recently, I see
a comment where he says he's proud of me!!

    Dear A/J
As you only started writing poetry five years ago you're doing very well.
Hugh has certainly been a great mentor to you, and as he said it's your perseverence that has helped you to be where you are today. Well done A/J
    Love Hine.

Wow...I'd have never guessed that you are so "new" to poetry writing. You can have the greatest mentor in the world, (which I believe Hugh to be!) but without your own perseverance it means nothing. Wonderful for you to give credit where it's due, just never forget much of it is yours as well. Thanks so much for sharing this...I feel like I've learned something about you, your writing, and Hugh as well.

Best wishes and good luck in the contest,
    ~J.

    Dear A/J,
What a beaut poem you've written to describe why you write poetry. Hugh certainly has been a great influence on you as he has to many poets on AP, including myself. I know I have learned a lot from him.
Thank you for entering our Group Contest and good luck in the judging.
    Love Jen.

Hugh's helped me in the past...which is a chore for him since my poetry is akin to a lump of mud.

I think is's great the bond that you and Hugh have. It's fun just to see the comments on each other's poems sometimes. Yeah, I'm nosy.

I would think one of the best ways to improve at something is by wanting to impress and make proud a mentor....I was a mentor once...my pupil didn't improve....

    Dear Bea,

Of all the AP pupils that I've taught
you were the best because you persevered.
Some 'dropped out' and my efforts came to naught.
    They lacked determination and despaired.

But you were resolute and so persisted,
with trust in me as mentor and as friend.
To master rhyme and meter you insisted
on carrying through our lessons to the end.

It wasn't bees you had inside your bonnet
but stalwart heart and spirit - nothing less.
Intent on learning how to write a sonnet
you persevered in spite of outer stress.

So, let me say to you if I'm allowed,
you are the one of whom I am most proud!

Applause for your poem and good luck in the voting.
With love and hugs, XXX Hugh (R.)
