A solitary
yellow flower stands
secluded
in a vast
and desolate
tarmac plane.
Proudly triumphant
for now,
it simply
refuses to give up
the struggle
without a fight.
That which was
oppressed
and seemingly doomed,
is now
a thriving dissident screaming,
“I’m still alive!”
Will it survive?
Perhaps,
but only
with a little help from
its sympathetic benefactors:
Sun and Rain.

Wonderful!
Thank you.
a dissident - I like that -
WOW this suprised me and woke me from my half slumber so late at night. Nice outlook on a poor nearly crushed flower struggling "against all odds" to hold onto life, like so many hopeless humans. Wonderful poem, thank you for entering!

I dig it,
but... not that this was 'cliche' but it was so, so close to being that. It's like the cliche profound. lol If that even makes sense.
You developed the metaphor well, but, I've seen this metaphor like 10 times before [and I have even used it myself]
Think of more original ideas.. and there is no doubt in my mind you'll be a force.
For what this is, great work.

nature always tiumphs.
I like the notion of the solitary yellow flower, to me part of the sun hence heaven, penetrating through the tarmac to show its glory, quite like us. we hope that nature will also step in to nurture us in our quest, giving us sun and rain, joy and sorrow, for us to flourish.thank you. -
Such a beautiful write so full of wonderful imagery. Good luck in the contest
