Going To War
You are still within your mommy,
and I must go far away.
God willing your daddy will return,
and I’ll hold you , this I pray.
I would not go and leave you,
but there are mean people in this world.
So I’ve got to go and stop them there,
to protect daddy’s little girl.
If for some reason I don’t return,
and never get to hold you.
Just know for you I gave my all,
because that’s what daddy’s do.

This one made me cry...maybe because I have been through this, except completely the opposite. He was abusive before he left, including while I was pregnant..even though he didn't know I was at the time...
I hoped it would get better when he returned, but it didn't he continued to get worse. So I filed for my divorce and I have to say that my daughter and I are so much better off.
Thanks for sharing, this is a terrific write...to me, this would be a fairytale -
This poem strikes home for me. I got deployed on my second tour when my wife was expecting our son. I was lucky enough to have leave and came home when he was born. Watching him being born and also seeing the things I seen overseas makes me value life in a very different way, as you do not doubt. Soldiers sacurfice more than people could ever know.... as so their families...
