Why I like poetry - A NON ENTRY
I first began to write my poetry when
a hurtful marriage I broke up with Dave,
to put my feelings down and start again
to find anew the life and love I crave.
My early ones were mostly just love poems
to fill the void I felt inside for loss.
"I’m not a poet," I thought, "I’m just lonesome."
No rhyme or rhythm on the page I’d toss.
It took a while to learn the different styles
but now I've learned to write my verse in time.
Such fun we have as favorites of Hugh Wyles
who likes to see us write in metered rhyme.
I’ve made so many friends on here as well
I try to pen fun poems which make them smile;
to know they get a kick from reading's swell.
It makes my time on here much more worthwhile.
That’s why I like to write my poetry here
it gives me calm and helps my heart to ease.
I want to learn - of this I'm most sincere
and hope you’ll read my poems and that they please.

In my young(er) and wild(er) days, we used to play a game at parties called, "I've Never..." My favorite, always a guarantteed win, was: "I've never ended a relationship without writing about it afterward." No one else could ever say the same.
For some, poetry will always be about getting their feelings out. For others, it's art and is constructed only as such. I think the best writers combine both in a quest for improving their poetry while still utilizing the emotional release it provides. No doubt you are among that latter bunch.
Good luck in the contest with this wonderful sharing of your writing roots!
Best wishes,
~J.

Dear Jen, Well Cuz, you have explained to us why you write poetry and I found when I first came on AP it was hard to find good Friends. But all that's changed now and I have made some wonderful friends on Ap just as you have. It is fun being in Hugh's Favourite's group isn't it? A beaut poem dear Cousin.
Love Hine.

Dear Jenelda,
Some things in life are good and others bad
that Dave, as I remember was a cad.
You're better off without him - now you're free
to concentrate your services on ME!
As PERKCAO your duties are defined
to keep the King's convenience in mind,
providing all the comforts he may need
and organise his every act and deed.
However, he is conscious that spare time
must be allowed for you to pen your rhyme
(which, in his judgement, he perceives as good)
and keep in touch with comrades as you should.
The King reads every single poem you write
and looks to study more before tonight.
~~~
Applause, love and hugs, XXX Hugh (R.)
You know I will...
of this I'm most sincere
and hope you’ll read my poems and that they please.
because they do.
I don't always get to read as much as I like to but when I do I always try to get in one of yours. This was such a very heartfelt poem. I am sure it will touch many.
Some good things still come from a broken relationship
You have a wonderful sense of humour, and rhymes or not, you make us smile all the same.
This poem is a great way to know a little bit more of you, thanks for sharing your thoughts with us
I'm one of your readers who like the funny ones...actually the one good thing about me is I like all types of writing, serious or silly...Yep, the only good thing about me.
I think that's a great story...you have a concrete memory of why and when you began...and writing, as you know, is a great way to deal with the lousy things we go through in life.
Dave was a jerk. Someone had to say it.
Thanks Ima.
And yes, he is a jerk!
Dear Jen, Your poem is great, I remember when you and Dave parted which in the end was for the best.
I too love writing poetry now and am also addicted to AP. Hugh is a great mentor to have and he encourages us to do our best.
Love A/J
