the beauty of that moment

I sat on your back-porch
at 6:58 AM--
in awe of how this dewy morning
made me feel like the sky was
blanketing my skin--
like the air was wrapping itself
around every delicate pore,
and hugging every
long strand of blonde hair
pouring out of this mixed-up head of mine;

the moment felt so fresh and new-
completely unlived in, except by me-
sneaking a cigarette and sipping
steaming coffee
from a wine glass
because it was the only clean dish
in your entire apartment;

and as I peeked through the window,
my searching eyes found what
they were looking for…

there you were-
laying in the same spot I’d left you
in the center of your bed…
completely naked,
with your hair in a beautiful disarray,
and one leg sticking haphazardly
out of the tangled sheets…

it was absolutely breathtaking
to see you like that-
wearing nothing but a lazy
sleep-captured grin,
painted so artfully across your face-
like you were dreaming about
happiness in it’s purest form;

& I don’t think I’d ever felt
that peaceful
in my entire life;

[& I’d never been more certain that I was in love with you.]
