Poems In the Park

Not an ordinary day
arrived at last
I packed a picnic and a
pile of poems
said goodbye to the hills
and sped away for
not an ordinary day

Gliding through the
sodden fields of English
countryside
amongst the smart set
making mobile money,
with my picnic and
a pile of poems packed
I penned my way
on not an ordinary day

Herded through the city slickers
jostled through the frantic crowd
I met Malone my friend
waiting with her Irish smile
a picnic and a pile of poems.

Soon we sat beneath
the languid trees at journeys end
and there together
with our AP friends
we dined while poets spoke
and a culture hungry squirrel
joined the ranks.

So now I'm speeding back to Cumbria’s hills
and think it was a great idea of Quill's.
Malone and I would jointly like to say
Thanks for
not an ordinary day.

Author notes

Written to comemorate our AP meeting in Hyde Park August 1st. It was a lovely day; the sun was shining and the poetry brilliant! Looking forward to the next one Quill!

    Hoodwinked!

What a delightful adventure you have shared in your poem! The beauty of the day, and the inspiration of a friend, life could not be better.

    (Hood winked!) An afternoon's delight

with a montage of images that speed past our eyes to a conclusion, the end of a day.

    So true the adventures

For the poet who truly looks at the world and the wonders before us to see the ways of the world sometimes tears sometimes joy but so very aware and brings it to life upon the paper to share its full abundance of life . Goodmorning and I hope you have a great adventure today

    What a delightful memory

...And penned so perfectly in to the annuls of time.

Well done. So glad you were able to experience this special day. There is nothing as sublime as sharing good poetry with other like-minded folk.

    Beautiful, my friend!

we have a poetry club here too and it's a very strong one in Canada. I am the sec.-treasurer. They are posting my poems which is much better than exposure than here dont you think. Glad you have a tree to read your poems around.

I love this-its so rare to find an upbeat clever poem that is imaginatve. What i love most about this is how versatile it is. It can be read like a poem, a short story or even lyrics to a great indie song. Wonderful work, you have much talent!

    Love it

Yes it would be a wonderful day to sit beneath a large tree shaded area in a tranquil park and read poetry of visions and know at that moment the world is free about us
