Listen to the music of the night
As we dance,
Sway.
Your mask is firmly in place
And you will not let me
Glimpse your face,
Your heart.
I tried once.
Captivated by your mystery
I dared to reach out,
To slip your mask from your face.
You did not try to stop me.
Perhaps you thought I would not do it?
But I did.
Your rage hit me
Like a slap.
I stumbled back, stared at you,
Eyes wide,
Fearful.
In place of my comfort,
My angel,
You now stood
Livid and unmovable.
Have you forgotten my offense?
All I know is that you have once more
Consented to capture me,
As we dance again
To the music of the night.
Author notes
song inspired option, "music of the night" from phantom of the opera. yes i read the rules.
This is based on the musical/movie but can also metaphorically be translated to real life.

I really like the way you have interpreted this... the whole poem is very solid and very well written.
The final stanza is my favourite!
