Cogitation

Funny,
when I saw the basket
full of dark juicy blackberries
it reminded me of your lips
and those crossed eyes
trying to see a tongue
blue of strange candy.

Then,
the wheel of time
rolled back once again,
memories dropped to the bottom
of the crystal glass like the fine flow of sweet wine
waiting for a new sip,
holding on its edge a golden reflection
forcing me to close my eyes
to hide the colors of evening skies
and ripe fruit.

Around me
sounds of hundred unknown, invisible steps
running to catch their own basket of memories.

What? You got DQed because he couldn't ponder? That's a load of BS.

    Anyway...

This should have been judged based on the poetic quality, and it will be in my contest.

And I usually don't say anything...unless it really irks me- and this kind of nonsense certainly does irk me!!

This was excellent. The imagery and abstraction is balanced, and the imagery used is effective for getting the message across.

    Very well crafted.

My dear friend, I am always trying to understand somebodies opinion, We do not have the same taste for poetry, and we are not always in the right mood to read it. I know that I am not. Thank you for this contest and for your so nice and precious comment.

true, real poetry, in its immense number of prismatic shapes and hues and sounds, an amalgamation of fact and dream and fantasy. resulting in an intriguing mental residue for the reader.

    Aww ~

Ya know....this is going to sound

    weird...but here goes ~

This will not make the Finals......

    .....BUT.....

it is one of the prettiest poems I have

read in such a long time ~

I hope you can find a contest to enter

     this in as a Pre-write ~

    It will win...you have talent!

The only reason it will not go to Finals here,

is because I ask for writes which

will make me *sit & ponder*

This entry did not do that....but it did,

however, make me *sigh* Big Time!

    I am truly sorry,

but I have to DQ it for Finals ~

But.....I want you to know....I would place

this on my Authors' Page in a Heartbeat ~

Thank you for following the Rules,

but remember, if I don't ponder your write,

then your write shall not be considered for Finals ~

    Such a Lovely entry,

yet falling short of one main ingradient....>>

    ....the *pondering* affect ~

Be well Poet & join me in the POW

     with that talent of yours!

OK....I have re-read this entry 3 more times....

...I find that you gave me enough of the other thing

I was asking for....and that one thing is IMAGERY!

    Superbly done....going to Finals!

    Bear ~

Thank you Bear, lol, as I can see I gave you a reason for pondering. I am glad that you like this poem so much. For that reason this trophy has a double shine.

Superb imagery throughout this beautiful piece ... love the way you finish with "running to catch their own basket of memories" ... This is one of those poems that you want to return to time and again. Best of luck in the contest ... this is a goer in my opinion! xx

The last few poems that I've read of yours were all excellent, and this one is no exception. Memories gathered like fruit in a basket....so tempting...they're there, yet so far away. Someone once said we are all just memories - but perhaps we should be thankful. Wonderful imagery here and a piece of poetic life that speaks to all the senses.

sigh, this is so excellent, I love your work SO much!
    "memories dropped to the bottom
of the crystal glass like the fine flow of sweet wine
    waiting for a new sip,
holding on its edge a golden reflection
forcing me to close my eyes"....
very inspiring....such sadness of soul I feel in this,
    mixed with wonderful imagery..

    Excellent!

This is great, the imagery comes easily to mind, all those dark, juicy Blackberries... I can just imagine them having fermented into a rather heady type of port wine, no wonder you make mention of eyes crossed... it must be very potent stuff!
I love the idea of time rolling back, almost as if being able to once again relish the taste of those wonderful berries on the dregs.
Excellent final couple of lines, who of us has not at some time or other wanted to recap on a rather special memory.

Well done and best wishes for this contest.

    ~Katie~
