You miss the shade
the trees gave you
when the wind was hard
and unforgiving.
When the world collapses
in on you
and the sun burns
like the words they've used
before...
I will be here.
I will be your tree
so that you can sit in the shade
of love and comfort...
I shall shade you from
the winds of misfortune.
And when the world has turned cold
I shall show you the beauty
at your feet
and the simple pleasures
of the simple things,
like a smile, and a hug
and the subtle colors
of buttercups
and daises.
the trees gave you
when the wind was hard
and unforgiving.
When the world collapses
in on you
and the sun burns
like the words they've used
before...
I will be here.
I will be your tree
so that you can sit in the shade
of love and comfort...
I shall shade you from
the winds of misfortune.
And when the world has turned cold
I shall show you the beauty
at your feet
and the simple pleasures
of the simple things,
like a smile, and a hug
and the subtle colors
of buttercups
and daises.
Author notes
For a friend who went to Denmark where there are no trees - and where she was alone an misunderstood. She told me the only flowers were buttercups and daises, so when she returned, I gave her a bouquet made of those two simple pleasures.
All and any criticism welcome...

I like this. It is a sweet dedication with very nice and insightful personal references. I wouldn't have understood it as well without your notes, but it is beautiful and reassuring anyway. I hope your friend gets to read it, I'm sure she'll love it. Thanks for your entry.
