Misunderstood and feared
World’s greatest guardian
Hunted and shunned
As with all things
Trapped within this reality
Most were of good
Though some were of evil
Common to all
From Wyrm to Wyvern
Their untamed weapon
Like a rain of fire
The core of their being
Knowledge and serenity
Misjudged by man
A ferocious enemy to withstand
Under persecutions persistence
Long ages they remained hidden
A creature of myth
Though still a teacher to the initiated
Amongst their number, alas
Aroused by many years
Of bitter and twisted thought
A new and malevolent breed
Gathering all their knowledge
They constructed anew
Gave birth to their successors
To be revered as Gods
The rebellious war began
Though never witnessed by the World
Dragon-kind facing in war
Both kindred and constructed effigy
All that once was
May very well have been lost
If defeat and despair had not been redeemed
By the coming of the Dragon King
Arising in magnificence
Wreathed in fume and flame
The assault of his very radiance
Boiling away the mists of this last dawn
His unbreakable red armour
Gleamed above the battlefield
Like a crimson-winged sunset
As the hope of the enemy was dashed
The battle raged long
Though in the end
Neither the enemy nor their constructs
Could long bear his presence
Heed well, this true tale
Of living myth and hidden legend
To serenity they have returned
The great winged tutors of old
At their head he remains
The measureless Dragon King
Though in warning I say
It is wise to anger him not
Or you may bathe in his scarlet wrath

Author notes
This is a fable constructed on two tattoos that I currently have, which will at some point be expanded into a full-arm sleeve. I have two dragon heads, one a great, red, slightly oriental styled dragon (my dragon king), the other is also an oriental styled dragon, but done in a biomechanical/mechanical style.
This tattoo will be expanded into a full arm sleeve which will depict a war between dragons and biomechanical/mechanical dragons.
This to me symbolizes several different things. The obvious being the struggle between organic and mechanical, the dragon representing ourselves and the biomechanical dragon representing technology and how it is not always a good thing and often we become a slave to it.
It also represents a struggle to control thought and emotion. The dragon representative of the true inner-self, the calmness, the serenity, the clarity of thought. The biomechanical dragon is representative of unwelcome emotion, invasive thought, lack of control and negativity, and how the two are locked into a never ending struggle. Basically, ying and yang.
Sorry for the long note, but that is the fantasy, the story, allegory if you will, behind the real meaning of the tattoo/tattoos.

It is very representative of a lot in my life from when I was young to present day. Now, if only I could whip up enough money to get the bloody tatoo done. lol

This may well be fabled, but there is a life-like, mediaeval feel to this one. Such antiquity! I could imagine a joust even. Romantic/macabre in a way!!!
