My Surgery Awaits

Back in ninteen hundred eighty five I had an accident.
I barily survived it but my poor hips sure didn't

They told me I had to have them both replaced with new,
ask  me then when to schedule that for them to do.

One of these days when I have nothing better to do,
right now I'm busy, I can still put on my shoe.

Years rolled by, still I waited, the pain was not so bad,
I buried brother, nephew and Mother, right beside my Dad.

Other kin has come and gone,I still  put it on hold.
This spring, again they told me, and I am getting old.

Finally this fall, if I am still around to do it
I might  at long last let them, or try to see to it.

I had no idea, I would last or hold out quite this long,
They told me I couldn't,sure showed them they were wrong.

My walking is not so easy now, and I have to use a cane.
am still afraid of it, others have told me of their pain.

I guess I should just do it, get it over at last
move on and restart my life, put it in my past.

Maybe I will do it, if not fall, in the spring,
lay in bed and listen, as pretty birds do sing.

But not in the summer, when all the fun is here,
don't matter what the Dr says, I just will not hear.

wow I thought I was bad when I put off going to see the doctor for a few years, but since 1985!!! I hope, when you finally do decide to have the procedure that it goes well and that you'll be able to enjoy the many summers to come, upon your feet.

Nicely written poem, good rhyme scheme.

Putting things off can always come back to bite you in the rear, but then you probably already know that. I do hope you will try to have your surgery as it may improve your procrastination on something else. As for me, I still have a bunch of things I'm still procrastinating. Too many to even mention here! I want to thank you for entering my "The Procrastination Station" contest.

dude this one was interesting. I thought it was funny you keep procrastinating it until you have to. That's what I think gives it the humor. But that's me. Oh well this one was a cute little read.

      Dude-II

this was suppose to be about putting things off -
and I can provide the names and numbers of the Dr's they can verify it with - starting in Virginia, working my way all the way to Washington state By way of California then Texas.

This made me laugh.. it's unique and different. Your rhyming is really good in this and the imagery, I pictured it all. Nicely done.
