To touch the heart of God,
Having learned His will;
To go to Him and prod,
As we’re being still;
To seek His grace and mercy,
In e’ery time and need;
To see as He sees;
It’s for this, we plead;
To Him, who knows all need,
We dare not ask our way
The higher will is what we seek,
When we seek to pray;
Yet here is our greatest grace:
Prayer when it’s most raw
Is, once having seen His face,
To fall before in awe.
Author notes
I believe what the Bible says is prayer. Jesus' "Lord's Prayer" best exemplifies what prayer is.
He started with adoration of the Father. Worship is the highest form of prayer. Then, when one has seen God for who He is, they should desire His will done on earth; namely through the one praying. Thirdly, the praying one seeks his own need, spiritually and materially. Our greatest need spiritually is the need to be forgiven. This is done when we have reconciled with those we've offended.
Finally, Jesus showed that we are to expect the Lord to guide us according to His will, where we will not be led astray by the evil one.

Amen brother, the Bible is what we should look at to teach us to pray, and who better to teach it than Jesus Himself.
