Far Beyond Love

Far Beyond Love

Early morning
is only the beginning
for an entire day
of being together,
allowing us to know
each other
on a much more personal basis.

To know what you love,
your thoughts and dreams
is important to me,
so I listen as you talk
of all those things
you appreciate in life.

You ask me what I think,
as I gaze into your eyes
and hang on your every word,
and I tell you
just how remarkable you are.

I play with my rings
and you see,
a smile comes to your face,
because you know
that's what I do
when I think of you.

We are so far beyond
the lust
that can cloud
a perfect relationship
that comes only from
a deep love and respect,
and it's as if our minds
make love,
stimulating each other
with the intellect
we receive from each other.

As we lie in each other's arms
eating popcorn and watching a movie,
the warmth of our bodies
is comfortable
and we know we are safe
from the bitterness
that other relationships cause
when lust is taken away.

Author notes

Although a physical relationship between a couple is an important part of a marriage, it's what lies beyond it that makes a relationship stronger and more lasting.

Yes, Dearest Archana, this was a sudden inspiration. It is a true blessing to find someone who simply wants to spend time with you. Joe and I were brought together because it was meant to be. Our song is "Keeper of the Stars," that fits our love perfectly. It was written in the stars.

I think you've hit on the key ingredient most people overlook in any kind of relationship. If a couple can share their minds and souls their bodies will follow in due time. Relationships built the other way round tend to fall apart at the first sign of adversity. It pleases me to no end when I can see two people enjoying the former state rather than suffering the latter.

    Sincerely,
    Leo Long

It takes a long time to get to this point. My ex thought that if I was tired, I didn't love him. He took it personally and pouted until after I went to bed. Then he'd awaken me and take what he wanted--whether I wanted it or not. There was no respect there.

I don't have to worry about that with Joe. Our sponteneity is the end product of a day spent with respect and love.

      Thank you, Leo. Hugs, Patricia
