Flashback

I kiss my wife,
the start of another day,
off to work,
all is OK.
I see my neighbor as I walk out the door,
he waves hello as I walk to my car.
another beautiful day, I thought to myself,
then a lawnmower backfires,
and bang, back in hell.
I hit the floor.

"This is Bravo company to blue leader,
we are under fire, repeat under fire!"
I yell,
I scream,
"return fire! return fire!"
"O'ryley's dead" echos in my ears,
visions of legless corpses reappear.
"There are body's everywhere!" I hear,
but again," return fire!" I yell.
I crawl through my trench, trying to radio command,
"blue leader, blue leader, am I getting through?"
crawling over body's, that used to be my friends,
I think to myself,"This is not how it ends!"
I Fight,
climb,
scream,
"Take that hill!, men!"
As we charge at our enemy,
a big flash of light,
I see my neighbor's face, he asks "hey, are you all right?"
For as I look around, and see, my house, my car, my wife,
I Lay here,
in the middle of the road,

remembering another life.

    Well Done

War is Hell - I have never been there - but it is crazy - this is a good write telling the agony that the service people have to endure - even after the fighting is over - the sad thing is that the ones that started the war are wined and dined as always - I think the evil attack on the people of Iraq was uncalled for - keep on keeping ob - Bless God - Joe

    A Humble Sharing ...

written in a good style with facts that 'shock and awe' for your poem has much truth centered within. It is just the kind of poem that awakens the sleeping souls who are not facing that kind of adversity as the after effects of war continue (not to mention the war). Please keep writing to enlighten. joy

    So sad yet so true

If anyone thinks they can go through war then leave it behind when they return are very mistaken . Its part of their very being for which they only can control through reaction . Be there for him or her in those flash backs and let not one person ever laugh for that is the man who kept peace in our land and if you do anything then give him a hand let your protector know you are trying to understand .

That gave me chills... wow. That was powerful indeed.
This part: "am I getting threw?" threw means to be thrown, like a ball. Through is what you are looking for, as in to move through something.

    brillant and powerful

imagery....you know how to pace us too with the flow,
and you leave enough air in it..so we are not
overwhelmed by the imagery...will learn from you!
    thanks for the great lesson!

I like this. I like the refereces to war and how it can affect people, even when they're no longer fighting and are out.

    Moving.

Is this from personal experience or a work of imagination? It's testimony to its strong status that it's not possible to tell. Thanks for sharing.

Very emotional and so painful. The mind has a great tendancy to hang on to memories like this and present them to us at will. Sorry for the sadness...thanks for your wonderful entry!!!
