Southern Hospitality

Southern Hospitality

Ya’ll come on down, jus listen ta me
Jus set y’er self down, 'n make this y’er home
A southern place, 'n hospitality
A land full of love, 'n a place made for thee

Jus settle on down, no reason to roam
With a parasol and a perty hair comb
Ya’ll come on down, jus listen ta me
Jus set y’er self down, 'n make this y’er home

With orange blossoms 'n mint julep tea
The cool summer breeze and sassafras foam
Where everything grows in rich southern loam
We all want ya here I’m sure you’ll agree
Ya’ll come on down, jus listen ta me

huh? darling, the contest isn't over. I love your writing, and have no idea why you would think I didn't. I haven't even finished reading all the entries yet, and I will go through those that arent on the finalist list forty two times before I judge. Still

its your entry, do what you think is best.
        take care.

    Amera! Only you... lol.

I have never seen such wonderful use of the Southern dialect - and in form poetry, too! Love the mention of very Southern details such as orange blossoms, mint julep tea, etc. Made me think of "Gone With the Wind" kind of days...

You are a diamond among granite, as always.

Excellent use of language! The flow was impeccable and the meter great. An outstanding example of a rhondel. Deserved an award.

Well I'll be a chicken fried in goose-fat! Ya'll met ma lil brother Ethan? He's so ugly we had ta tie a pork chop round his neck jes so the dawg'd play with him, bless him!

(I cannot believe that bare-faced effrontery in the shape of a rondel only netted a little brown jug! What is the world coming to?)

Great Southern touches here, especially liked the sassafras foam and rich souther loam - that just flowed very nicely. Also liked the parasol touch - I expected to see that mentioned in several poems but only in this one as of yet! Good luck in the contest.
