three card molly was the lure
being in new york city, new york
had something to do with it too
the fast pace, never-ending night life
champagne, and good looking people helped
manhattan was buzzing like a flitting hummingbird
darting from flower garden to flower garden
i could feel the excitement, sirens blaring
cabby's rushing to and fro
streets flooded with human transport
all living in surrealistic agreement
after the third hand the dealer said;
"all in, everyone, double or nothin'"
i was foolish that afternoon
but cherish my sense of adventure
ill-repute seemed to bowl me over
made me lose my mind
and my money

I just shared with someone my trip to New York a couple of weeks ago. LOL I saw the fast pace you speak of and the folding tables with the slick vendors and their card games. This brought it all into perspective. I think I may have been one of the onlookers. I would never! LOL Great poem though.

Though you did a very nice job with this, I must point out that the contest it is entered in to is for new members of July, 2007, not June, 2007. You joined AllPoetry on June 28th, and the July contest opened for new members that joined on June 30th to be eligible to enter as stated on the contest page itself. Due to this, I must regretfully remove your entry from our contest. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me anytime.

This is brilliant. I love the use of the holiday, the way that it is written, and the language used.
Thank you for entering and good luck

So you succumbed to the power of the "game"! Don't worry, you aren't the first...and won't be the last.

Great write and images of NYC ... you captured its energy well. Good luck in the contest!
