I was held
Back in school,
Held
By my father's arms
As I wept
At my own
Lack of perfection,
And held
By his gaze
As I struggled
To learn
Trig.
I was held
Back in school,
Held
By the force
Of Austin Robert's
Personality,
And held
By his hands
In the back
Of his '92
Chevvy.
I was held
Back in school,
Held
By the others' stares
As I slumped
Through the hallways,
And held
By the weight
Of a bad
Reputation.
I was held
Back in school,
Held
By the tribulations
Of adolescence
But now
I am free,
And am held
No longer.

A stunning and smart poem!
Makes me admire and feel like saying "HEY>>> This is really so FINE!
Looks good, sounds good, is so fine!

I love the steady rhythm of the poem, and the wonderful twist of the words. I would not have thought of "I was held back in school" the same way you did, and I love reading poetry that opens my eyes. Your interpretation of the words is awesome, I love the entire poem in it's bittersweetness.

Thank you!

It actually didn't happen, I've never had trouble with school, but I'm glad to hear that it sounded that way!
(Not to be awkward, but you have a very pretty smile.)
