My Turn on the Karaoke Stage

Hit the button, grab the mike
Read the words to a song I like
Standing close to the microphone
I look around - I'm all alone
I sing my solo, I do my best
The fireworks blast, I pass the test
"Congratulations!" "Great job!" "Wow!"
I wish my dad could hear my now
The music echoes through the night
Under the glowing gazebo lights
I sit here listening to my friends
I hope this time will never end

Author notes

True story. I went up to sing karaoke and immediately afterwards I wrote this poem. I love to sing, and I had to put this up on the site.

Did you know that the word "karaoke" came from two Japanese words, "kara" and "oke"? "Karaoke" means "missing orchestra". In Japanese bars and taverns, people would have a band play the music to a song and someone would come up and sing the words.

There. You learn something new every day.
