Honor

legs spread
arms up and out,
"assume the position".
Answer this quickly-
seven quick shots to the ego.
The fangs of the viper hurt less than the venom.
It is a dulling effect,
stupefying, numbing to the senses,
just as it should be.
The gallows wait,
twisted knot dancing in the breeze
of departing freedoms
and the loss of our joy.
Noting precious can survive
when all hope has melted like the bright pool
of crayons in
the late afternoon sun.
Colors and passion become meaningless.
Life is less than lived,
a morning's faded mist,
torn apart by the harsh light
of reality.
The edges of the pond are beautiful in their slimy green foulness.
I wonder how those first steps will feel.

I can not say I have a favorite part because one line fits so well the next. It is also so very true the underlying content. So many times society labels people. I think you did a great job bringing this to light. Keep writing.

    Slime Green Confusion

My favorite part is "Noting precious can survive
when all hope has melted like the bright pool
    of crayons in
    the late afternoon sun.
    Colors and passion become meaningless."

I love the melding of colors and images in this poem....it is both angsty and awesome.
