Winter Nights

I remember you even more
on these cold starry nights
when Sirius is shinning brightly
as if telling Orion to point his belt downward
so Algol can dance around the night sky

it is then that I wonder
if you are sitting in the crescent moon
pointing the way to
Mars
Jupiter
Mercury

or if you are a variable star
meditating in between the Gemini Twins
in hopes to keep those two from fighting

maybe you linger near Venus in the early evening sky
waiting for the Ursid meteor shower to clear your thoughts

but you are probably looking at me through
the eyes of the Owl nebula
in your humble seat in Ursa Major

and then my hands freeze
telling me that I am still on planet Earth
and that it is way past my bedtime

God! how I hate being able to peer into the heavens
I should have never been given a telescope
because every time I use it

I forget that I am only mortal
and cannot be invited
to the waltz in pitch black
where everyone is dressed in diamonds

and I fail to remember
that I am also very very small
and that even though the stars and planets look minute
they are much larger than I’ll ever be

but I try to pull people in with my own gravity
made of tears and anguish
revolving about laughter and secrets

at least I know
that no matter where he lies in the universe
that I am still the hub
his sun
about which he revolves

not because my pull is strong
but because he can’t stand the cold
of Winter nights

this is good, i found that i liked it better as it went on. the beginning is a little choppy because of all the different references. i really like the second half of poem, though. starting with "i forget that i am only mortal" you have a wonderful message here. i love the stanza:
"but I try to pull people in with my own gravity
    made of tears and anguish
    revolving about laughter and secrets"

thanks for the entry, i enjoyed this. -cassidy

I'm impressed! This is extremely profound and I like the way your thoughts take me on a journey into the mysteries of the universe and into your mind.

    Peace Georgia
