Elvis on Ed Sullivan
Author notes
Elvis on Ed Sullivan. Don't be Cruel (elvis on ed sullivan - don't be cruel.wmv)
If you type this in at goodle you can see what I'm talking about. Remember it like it was yesterday.
Me and Ellen Clarkin spent hours dressing for that night! Her parents got concerned about it and threatened not to let us watch him.

You really captured the adolescent excitement inherent within the moment, in that you did an excellent job. As far as the haiku goes, and correct me if I'm wrong, it appears to be in the wrong form - as in, the syllable count reads 5, 5, 7 instead of 5, 7, 5, but maybe I'm missing something. Nevertheless, a commendable write.

Dear MOM, Thanks for stopping by...as for form and such you will have to consult the Haiku-police...not me. Thanks again, Jane

This poem is short and sweet–straight to the point. Your few words effectively paint a picture of what it was like "dressing up to watch TV." The last line explains the reason for all the fuss.

This was a very good Haiku. I love the what you had to say about the pic.
All and all a very enjoyable read.
Keep up the good work. -

Memories!
Even though I was born in 1987, this poem still captures that timeless sensation ___EVERY___ girl gets when she sees her celebrity crush on any size screen. Yours was Elvis; mine is Jimmy Gnecco.
Very nicely done--capturing all that in eleven words.

Great...does this ever bring back memories, my first time to see Elvis...he sang "Don't Be Cruel"and shook me up...still shakin'...leaf

This is cute, you sure would dress up for that hunk! You must come over, I'll let you hold HIS newspaper I snitched off his front yard in Bel Air years ago, when we went "shopping" for souvenirs one night. Great haiku!

Some things never change, Jane. I remember my girlfriend and I would get all decked-out every Monday night whenever that show "The Monkees" was coming on. I actually used to pay my two brothers $1.00 each to be super-quiet when the 1/2-hour of show was on--(Being my babysitting earnings were only 50-cents an hour, this was an expense)!
It's such a sweet memory of you and Ellen Clarkin you've written in this haiku. I can picture you both with the bobby-sox and bobby-pins. It feels like I was there!
Thank you for this wonderful entry to the contest!
