A Moonlight Sonata

Carrying dread. Sleep. Wishes never hoped. Silence sees all that lives in the most careful way, unnoticed like handsome death waltzing across the floor, your lover in his arms. And though you wish it would come for you next, it smiles and drifts away.

The lights on river twinkle like smiles lost, dreams drowning amongst the ripples and waves. Despair holding you like an unseen friend. The river bank chills your face as you lie down, sorrow pouring down your face to join all the dying hopes.

Every breath hollow. Pale memories. Laughter floats from another world beyond the shadows of remorse. Heart beats echo forever inside you. Destiny remains thwarted by guilt. Still cold, still blue. Still wonder at the slight noises of shattered life.

Distance from happiness grows. Shame. The wind whispers its sadness to you from far away, trees listening. Thick moonlight flows across Anguish, her cold fingers running through your hair. Sweet surrender to cold Misery, all while sweet ghosts watch.

Restless sorrow drinking from an empty heart. Peace in despair and lost love sweeping across your body, filling no void, washing no stains. Church Bells herald a last look at a beauty from which there is no turning back. A timeless face that even death preserves.

Music, slow and sorrowful. Biting frost edges a dying rose. Thorns that glitter like diamond daggers. Stone beds for paramours lost. Sighing stars watch like lost spirits, sleep closing in like a tempest of regret. Secrets lost fall unbidden across your cheeks.

Author notes

Written while listening to Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, and looking back at it paints a scene that is in sync with the music. Named accordingly.

I was curious to hear this piece with Beethoven's Sonata, it was really moving. What was the inspiration behind this poem? What causes the guilt?
