Shakespeare Meets Snoop Dogg

Shakespeare: Good day, chained friend.  Might I acquaintance make?
Perhaps you've heard these centuries laud of me?
Now William Shakespeare in thy presence stands.
Extend an arm, allow our hands to shake.

Snoop Dogg: Yo! Yo!  Dey call me Snoop Dogg.  C'mon man check da rhyme--

Hello there, Willy Billy, wit' ya talkin' willy-nilly
'cuz I know ya feelin' silly in ya stockin's long and frilly
try'n ta keep ya legs from chillin' from dat overwhelmin' feelin'
only I can rap about.  Yee-  ah, shout!

Shakespeare: But hark, young knave!  Thy follies, let them cease.
Bid me discourse, I will delight thine ear.
Do feed of the poppies now bred from my mouth's field.
And yield thy bant'ring tongue awhile to peace.

Snoop Dogg: Na - - aw!  'Cuz me and my boys be kickin' it out,
            announcin' it wit' explicatives!  Shout!
Yee - ah shout!  Yee - ah shout!  Aw - right!
Try'n ta make some smoke for all da jokers who are chokin' us
wit' all dat pokin' all  up in our bidnus wit' dey ever-lawin' mouths.
Yee - ah shout!  Yee - ah shout!  Aw - right!

Shakespeare: A nobl'r cause have I in all my verse, but
That cause would be laid waste if lavished here
Upon thy unlearn'd head and canine ear--
For kings and angels I have famed with it.

Snoop Dogg: Yo, man!  Don't be disrespectin' wit' yo' self-erectin' rhyme.
Don't want dis dawg up in yo' face!  No way, no how, no time!

Shakespeare: We've faced enough!  'Tis of a verity!
One bright saying here I must admit:
The dulling fool's a sharpener of the wit.
Perhaps my next play's jester you shall be!

Snoop Dogg: Aw, naw!  Don't call me jester, more like Chester the Molester
'cuz I'm strippin' down your lines, an' I'm trippin' on yo' jive
you Elizabethan queen. See ya man, cuz now ya freakin'
            I mean, explicatively speakin'!

Shakespeare: And thy dark lips and soul, I pray, be dumbed
To everlasting heaps of just dessert.
Let us, then, part with no sweet sorrow feigned.
I bid farewell before I bite my thumb.

Snoop Dogg: Whatever, man!  I'm outta here!

Shakespeare: Word!

    Wow

You just know that I loved this...you even quoted a line from my perfect play. There are two stories that have gotten into me, one is of fiction in Verona(actually played out hundreds of thousands of times in real life) the other is of Elizabeth Barrett Browning and her Robert. And "it's the stuff dreams are made from" (the last line from The Maltese Falcon). Her poem of love is my very favorite.

    Romeo and Juliet

    From on high
    they look down
    and see two lovers
    trying something very special
    they know about star-crossed
    and love lost

J: Doth thy see his gaze of her?
R: Aye, like sparkling wine in a crystal cantor
    J: What of her?
R: Aye, her eyes doth shine
    like the morning meadow
still wet with millions of eyes
    soon to be warmed away
J: Is that the place of their love?
    to be warmed away?
R: Nay, warmth gives them strength
    to fight the battle mounts
warmth is like steel to flesh
    and all that is holy
J: Should we wish them a basket of fruit
to eat on their narrow path?
R: Nay, they have their own wishes
    their own basket to fill
R and J: Fair thee well young lovers!

    Author notes

My favorite story of two great houses.
My favorite scene..."let hands do what lips do".

LOL. Loved how Shakespeare said "Word" at the end. Perfect and a surprise which made it funnier! You are very good at that Shakespearian writing, don't reckon I could do that.

You know what is eerie? I wrote something vaguely similar to this. Ok, mine was two vampires and one spoke formal 18th century English and the other modern slang, and mine was dialogue not in poetic form, but still the contrast of styles is there.

Mine was just a gentle poke at those who write vampire stories, lol.

I could make a case for this being also a satire, this one on the differences between classical and modern tastes and values, but I won't. But if I did, I would focus on the artistic values of Snoop, and if modern man's artistic brain cells have all died off...but of course I am not making such a case.

It's just crazy stuff, huh? I wrote this one night after a friend of mine described something as "it's kinda like Shakespeare meets Snoop Dogg." I thought that was such a great way to explain something, and the more I thought about such a meeting, my mind just got goofy and this poem was the result!

Poor Bill is probably rolling over in his grave. And the Dogg, well I hope he doesn't give up his bling over this one.

It's crazy where a gal's mind will go at three in the morning!

Thanks for re-visiting--and for the happy comment. Glad I could be of service!

Exciting contrast, loved "Upon thy unlearn'd head and canine ear" and "dulling fool's a sharpener of the wit." You have a knack for capturing the style of both personalities. Prithee, you da man!

This really was delightful! I'm not into rap, but the beat you gave it made it flow!

Loved the "stockin's long and frilly", also the "unlearn'd and canine ear", and "thy dark lips and soul, I pray, be dumbed"!

An encounter I wouldn't want to miss! Thank you for taking notes and sharing!

You gave me a seizure. This was so funny and witty I want to laugh my ass off the whole time, but my whole family's sleeping, so I had to laugh in my mind but I laughed so much it hurt

I absolutely loved the ending... there isn't just enough words to describe how comic and absolutely skillful the ending and whole poem is.

But, who allowed you to share how most of our conversations roll I am Snoop Dogg and your Shakespeare....or is it the other way around?
