battlefield infirmary

it was a man's game:

you fought words with words,
emotions with emotions.

camouflage attire colourized;

you shot heartfelt weapons
just to be bruised, wounded, scarred
yourself.

I wore the red cross: caring for you
as you came to the infirmary
every night (I tried my best to heal).

laughter & friendship was the cure -
until your heart craved
the battlefield again, or it missed you.

(why can't I keep you safe
with me?)
