she heard that men are known by their heroes,
by the books shelved within memory
they think worthy of reference
and the company they choose to keep,
experience echoes in shades of grey
of educated men and what they made
more or less of by utilizing it,
leaving barbs wired to detonate
which does not disguise
the long drawn out haul of gaul,
a man may be known by many a thing
but his actions,his reactions,
are by what he is prone to be shown,
let a man marry opinion to opportunity
to reveal in essence what he feels,
but it need not cause wounds
or bruised fleshed out moments
that call for bandaging
to the extent that one is stupified
within the mummification,
the numbing and dumbing down
of freedom of speech,
let the liberty be valued
as opposed to devalued,
let no man be too liberal
in the taking of liberties

This is different. I will say the lack of punctuation hindered the flow of the poem, making it awkward to read in parts. I liked the subject idea; very original. Thanks for entering.

liberties...
Some wonderfully descriptive passages in this work poet! And it contains within it a powerful message and a warning to us all.
Fine work... good luck in the contest!

Yes!!
AMen!! This is so appropriate for the times today. My favorite lines were:
"let the liberty be valued
as opposed to devalued,
let no man be too liberal
in the taking of liberties"
Right now the United States' citizens have allowed so many of our rights to be compromised and/or removed under the veil of protection from an imagined enemy, invisible and absent of identification. The proverbial "them" who leave event without evidence of who or really why. In truth the liberties we fearfully protect are surrendered by us in the process and "they" win without making a move.
Great write.
John
