New Year's Day

It's New Year's Day
It's time to throw the past away
Another chance to prove that we're okay

It's New Year's Day
And though the skies are dark and grey
We know finally this year we're here to stay
It's New Year's Day

And though the past seems unforgiving
Though last year was filled with pain
We'll try to take just one step forward
Remembering that all the while
The sun shines brightest following the rain

It's New Year's Day
At last we have the strength to say
That we are here and we are not afraid

It's New Year's Day
And if there is a God, we pray
We won't ever back down, so come what may
It's New Year's Day

And though last year was filled with sorrow
Though we will never forget
We know now there's a bright tomorrow
And with every breath we take
We'll stand together, leaving our regret
So don't you cry, we need not be upset

It's New Year's Day
It's time to throw the past away
'Cause now we know that we will be okay

It's unusual to read a poem about "New Year" (especially in August) but it was good. I am very harsh when it comes to rhyme though, so I do have to say I found the rhyme in this very predictable. I liked the idea behind it though. Thanks for entering.
