Consider the experience of love.
A composite.
An ever-changing reflection of cause and effect.
As the shadow of a sailing ship,
With each gust of wind warping and filling the the receptive canvas,
Casts it's image upon in the wild ocean.
Thrusting forward.
Splitting the swell and riding the wave.
No vacuum draws power into the sails,
But an openess and flexibility accepting the passing breeze.
Too slack and it will spill.
Too taught and the mast will break.
As the captain must know and adjust his ship,
If he is to use nature to move far in safety,
So must a man be aware of and adapt himself,
If he is to live in happiness
Author notes
Using the metaphore of ship, shadow, sea etc to discuss personal responsibility with regard to love and happiness.

On a quick read through I enjoy the imagery you paint with your words....as the picture is formed in my mind i feel i am there watching the ship in full sail.
Your author notes take me back to look deep into the lines and between them I do like that in a poem where i can run between the lines in depth of meaningful thoughts....Thank you for the lingering thoughts I have to ponder over
I do look forward to the finished post.
Very nicely crafted
