It’s an insert.
Pick up picture,
Put it in the book.
Take two stacks
And turn them into…
Two stacks.
Stupid ghost. Go away!
Half these books are going in the trash.
Does Harry die? Don’t tell!
Shhh! Don’t call it Harry Potter.
I need a special badge
To handle empty boxes.
Oh, yeah. Surround us in caution tape,
Post signs reading: secure title.
Hmmm, what could we be working on?
I wonder. It must be Dr. Seuss. Yeah, right.
Finally, the twenty-first!
It’s finished!
I’m so relieved.
Free copy.
Author notes
This is more my reaction to the last book than the whole series. I was one of the lucky people to work on the book. It was crazy. We kept finding this little smudge that looked vaguely like a person and had to do our best to keep those books from making it to stores. We started refering to the smudge as "Harry's Ghost." It was on at least half the books. As for this poem, it's a collection of thoughts I had during the loooong process of making Harry Potter. Just thought I'd share some of our experiences.
