The wind whispers stories
told beneath
and in every thread.
Tidy stitches,
each one placed
with care by loving hands,
bring together scraps.
Melding
moments, days, years
side by side in ways
not possible in life.
Lives intertwoven
new patterns emerge
revealed in vivid color.
History
known only to her
retold in the blending
of their moments.

Belated Congratsies on your Bronze
That lives, like teachers at a school, for instance, should be considered a single patchwork entity is a fantastic thought. Thanks to Samplette for having the good sense to reward this!

This had a real quilting feel to it. Well deserved trophy.

This is a very well written piece. A great way to keep memories alive, in a hand made quilt. Thank you for entering the contest.

Needlework is always a great metaphor for life. Your first stanza is brilliant, connecting thread and stories of lives. The patient work of sewing together these patches becomes a life's work, creating beauty from "scraps". Best of luck!

I like how you used the metaphor of patchwork, it really lent a unique and creative touch to the peice. Your wording was also great and the flow was perfect. Thank you for such an exemplary poem!
