Dinner for two?
The mouth waters in anticipation
at the prospect: I know
the perfect place.
We will drive (my car,of course)
along a rocky headland
overlooking Donegal Bay
to a small, intimate hotel.
Brendan, our waiter,
will seat us in an alcove--
candlelit--where we will
watch moonlight on dark waters.
Nothing will be heard
save quiet conversation
and the muted clink
of long-stemmed wine-glasses.
The ambience will be perfect
as we choose our starters.
You like sea-food?
The smoked salmon is superb,
Brendan will pour the wine,
a classic vintage, as we
contemplate our main course--
perhaps lightly grilled sea-bass
or rack of Kerry lamb?
We will take our time, my dear;
the night will be long
and the food fabulous.
Our fingers will brush
as we share morsels of food:
the sea rippling in soft moonlight
will enhance the mood.
And in the Irish night
the stars will pulse
in harmony with
our pleasure and delight.

Ireland here I come -
That rack of Kerry lamb sounds delicious! - you really got my mouth watering with this poem. I've never been to Ireland but your poem makes me want to, with its vivid descriptions and the ambience of that romantic evening. Great flow for a non-rhyming poem. Congratulations on the honourable mention.

I know this is a beautiful romantic mood poem, but I will have to tell you I laughed at a line for the question was asked that I always reply with an answer; Yes, I love seafood...I see food and I want to eat. It's almost as bad as the pick up line...So you must be from Tennessee for your the only 10 I see(lol). Sorry for getting carried away from my own amusing humor that may not be humorous to anyone else. I do appreciate you writing a great gem. I want to thank you for entering my "Let's Have Dinner" contest.

Amazing, I could see the scene unfold before my eyes, little things like the long stemmed wine glasses, and fingers brushing really brought this to life, well done again mate, brilliant,
Alex.

like description of very romanic setting etc
problem is dinner cancels romance. on a full stomach hard to invest in love and espcially lovemaking. but then i am a filthy minded bitch. sorruhowever really liked the brushing fingets-image
