The Heart of a Man

The heart of a man is a restless heart.
Who longs to be a will-o-the-wisp.
To be able to fly
Far out in the sky
Capturing each dream he's missed!

The heart of a man is a wayward heart!
Like the way of a tumbling weed.
That forever must roam
with no roots to call home
Blown on by  an errant  breeze.

The heart of a man is a lonely heart.
Like the cry of the wild marsh loon.
As she pierces the air
With a cry of despair
When she finds all her nest in ruin.

The heart of a man is a mighty heart!
With the strength of a thousand lions!
But it will surely die
If not let fly
To wherever the heart desires.

well. i liked this is had a nce flow to it. I did not stumble through the words. It is, to me, a good poem to be put to music. I can vision manly-men singing this as they raise theirsteins of beer. Well done and good luck in the contest.

    Great Aries

This sounds like the heart of someone I loved dearly
who died in an accident. Is it the heart? or that
'spirit' within that is gone when the heart stops
beating. You see the same 'thing' in the animal world
They will surely die man/beast if not given freedom.
A death in 'spirit' man/animals retreat into themselves
if not able to be free, it seems like their hearts/
spirits seem to die.I love the poem.

The heart of a man is a weathered heart, and alas it has felt much, been afflicted many times, and yet it is resilient. I have to say that I love this poem...

This poem reminds me of a man with such a caring heart, that he would give the shirt off of his back to help someone else. He held me in the esteem of a precious jewel (something I was never used to, being treated nicely), and each time he held me, or opened his mouth to speak, I could feel the love radiating from the deepest recesses of his soul. You, too, remind me of him in some ways.

To make a long story short--he was my fiance...

    I like this a lot. Your flow and rhythm are very good, i especially like;

    "But it will surely die
    If not let fly
    To wherever the heart desires!"

If we don't chase our dreams and desires then we become stagnate... at least in my opinion.

    Nicely done, enjoyed this,

I felt each part of your heart as each picture was painted.
"The heart of a man is a wayward heart!
Like the way of a tumbling weed.
    That forever must roam
with no roots to call home
And capture each wind that leads."

I don't know why I liked this stanza so much. I would hate to think my husbands heart was wayward. I know it was..before I captured it.

"The heart of a man is a lonely heart!
Like the cry of the wild marsh loon.
    As she pierces the air
    With a cry of despair
To find all her nest in ruin."

This one is the most heartfelt stanza. The one that shows your soul.
    Another excellent write.
