Seen at a different time
only once a year
darkness consumes it
Spotlights hit concrete
allowing site for a lone man
his neck turns and mind wanders
Reminiscing to times
of morning innocence
where he once raced
Sunlight hitting the water
wind striking his hair
Physical pain but mental bliss
With feelings of invincibility
his legs stride the pavement
against his opponents and himself
Night time resurfaces
streetlights glow again
and he's the only man
He is not currently running
only standing and thinking
on an empty street
only once a year
darkness consumes it
Spotlights hit concrete
allowing site for a lone man
his neck turns and mind wanders
Reminiscing to times
of morning innocence
where he once raced
Sunlight hitting the water
wind striking his hair
Physical pain but mental bliss
With feelings of invincibility
his legs stride the pavement
against his opponents and himself
Night time resurfaces
streetlights glow again
and he's the only man
He is not currently running
only standing and thinking
on an empty street
Author notes
I ran a road race for four years of high school. It went down by the beach. I just graduated from high school and last night was hanging with friends when I came across one of the streets that was on that road race. I had several flashbacks of that race over the past four years.
