Beyond the Veil of Heaven

I can imagine heaven to be a veiled world,
studded in harrowing extravagance.

I can imagine swimming in divine waters,
a sea of enchanted smiles, rich in liquid light.

I can imagine every blade of grass
living, breathing, embossed in emerald hue.

I can imagine a sampling of celestial incense,
tantalizing senses no longer entrapped in mortality.

I can imagine a parade of bountiful gifts, blessed by
eternal beings, whistling to the tune of golden virtue.

I can imagine immersion in timeless reflection,
caressed by flawless grace; I can imagine.....

Author notes

It's my personal belief that Heaven does exist.

    Wonderful

How you didn't win a trophy with these exquisite vignettes of heaven is beyond me. Really beautiful, Don, and a heavenly delight to read.

      Wow!

Thanks for commenting on this one! This piece is so dear to me. When I read this piece, it reminds me of where I believe my mom and dad are today. I lost them within a three year period, my mom when I was 18, and my dad, when I was 21. I do believe they watch over me, my wife, and my kids. It's very comforting to read this piece again. It reminds me of how important it is to hold on to my faith.

Thank you so much for your lifting words, David. Don

Everyone should have beliefs that comfort them....give them hope on the dark days
to echo the bright days. You have painted
that faith here and it is a shining vision.

Very good, love the way you repeated the line "I can imagine", the way you end the write, with those same words wraps it up perfectly, I read your profile, your getting started the sorta the same way as I, I wanted to write poetry for my wife, and it evolved from there. as for the rest of the poem, I like your vocabulary, its descriptive which puts the beauty in poetry, for most people when it comes to free-verse no form poetry, it tends to sound more like a statement or a letter than a poem, and by using the descriptive words and proper punctuation, you get across your msg and inspire beauty in its meaning, you've done very well with this piece and I'll have to read more, thanks for stopping by my page, and God bless!!!     - Jacen.

This is a nice picture, I love the terrestrial allusions you make, simple things like grass, and bevel it within your vision of what heaven might be. Also, its a cool aspect of you escaping the mortal coil so to speak, well done, good luck in the contest.

    Imagine the reality!

Magical may not be quite the appropriate expression but I feel to say your write is a magical progression. Each line brings a lot more to the vista. I can envision you going within, focusing on Heaven and drawing forth these images.
Immersion in knowledge and acceptance, an awareness of each particle of creation, unimaginable development "to the tune of golden virtue"...
I especially appreciate the delicate and refined expression of your initial lines where you left the "harrowing extravagance" to be developed in the mind of the reader.
I admire your poetic ability and would hope that this write is viewed by many readers. Thank you for this fine entry. Jadon

Thank you for such a fantastic compliment, Jadon!

That just made my day. Having lost both of my parents before I was 21, my mom to heart disease, and my dad to a brain aneurysm, as well as my stepmom to emphysema, I find it very healing to imagine Heaven this way. I was elated to see this contest in the list, because I had been hoping a contest like this would be entered. I believe very strongly that there is so much more beyond this life, and that we all find "awareness" from the very moment we pass. It helps me to deal with my loved ones' losses, knowing that they are doing just fine, and that they watch over me and my children.

When Thomas Edison was on his deathbed, he looked up, smiled, and said "It really is beautiful over there." He passed almost immediately after that. I believe he saw just a glimpse of what most of us can only imagine, but something we all see when our time comes. For now, I can just imagine that one day, I will experience something so extravagant, whether that be fifty years from now, or even tomorrow.

Appreciate the reference to Thomas Edison. Similar family experiences recorded that I am aware of echo that expression almost verbatim. Thank you again. Jadon
