There's a rattle in the garden.
Bug-like creatures with metal-green wings clicking
& the heads of button daisies nod
in answer to a question kept secret between
them & the wind
& the sun's casting shadows, stroking
length of ragweed
proud as it stands, centered--
marigolds & zinnias crowding. There are
caterpillars making dinner
from the leaves of forget-me-nots
& the goldenrod are pregnant-full
ready to burst
wipe out the reds, lavenders, tiny pink petals
take ownership of a garden bordered
in plastic picket fence on three sides
as the wild tends to do--
Author notes
I wrote a poem a while ago (one I actually like) titled "The Parkers". I thought I'd continue in that direction.
Or maybe not?

Yes, please. You simply must, Meli. What a great, descriptive piece this is. Your title lured me in; I thought, perhaps her neighbor's garden...or perhaps one belonging to the ineffable, laudable Dorothy Parker??? Hmmm...I wonder what sort of flowers she would have planted??? At any rate, I love it, my Friend. More please.
