Always the same, like the waves
of flowing energy
on a pond,
after a stone has been thrown.
In the slipstream, all
is dark and eerily quiet
like a calm country morning
except for the sound
of my beating heart.
It started as an incredible dream,
as lucid and vivid
as any Hollywood production
and far beyond
any earthly budget.
I have seen amazing things;
civilizations struggling,
fighting back and forth
for material possessions,
wasting precious lives.
Stained in the blood
of the brave and innocent,
history shimmers
in a sick sanguine light
that will ever haunt me.
I am allowed only glimpses,
like you would see
as a passenger
looking out of a window
on a fast moving train.
I have heard the agonizing cries
of Christ’s followers
as He hung upon the cross
on Golgotha and their elated shouts
upon His resurrection
and, I have heard the crying
of William Shakespeare as he was born
in that small house on Henley Street
in Stratford England
on that April day.
So it goes, my journey
through the ages, painfully
more real than history books
have often portrayed.
As for the future?
Well, I know this: that time
waits for no one because
it knows no bounds
and is fluid; like water
always the same, like the waves
of flowing energy
on a pond,
after a stone has been thrown.

sounds like my life -
the line "history shimmers in a sick sanguine light that will ever haunt me" is such a great line! wow! i love how you put the cries of both Christ's followers and Shakespeare.
the second to last stanza is really strong... i love that line "time waits for no one because it knows no bounds and is fluid; like water" you did a really nice job on this, thanks for a good read.

Very, very interesting way to present this theme, lika a visionary from the past and future is unpredictable, it is like a water. Great path through time. Nice beginning and the end, like a movie scene. Good idea.
