We can serenade the neighbors
With the rhythm of our labored breathing.

Writing is just something that we do,
Like walking 10 miles to
Buy a not-quite-ripe watermelon
To drop off the top story of our apartment building.
Didn’t it look just like a painting splattered on the pavement?

Writing is just something that we do.
Because loving is like drowning…
There’s only so much you can fight it before
You’re too far down.
