The Atoms

I'm not afraid of the atoms,
are you afraid of the atoms?
In a dark room alone at night.
Do they give you a fright?

I'm not afraid of the atoms,
are you afraid of the atoms?
Do you feel the need to turn on a light?
Does it make you feel better when the room is bright?

I'm not afraid of the atoms,
are you afraid of the atoms?
Do you feel their presence?
To you, do they give off an essence?

I'm not afraid of the atoms,
are you afraid of the atoms?
To you, do they speak at the end of your bed?
Are you sure the voices are not in your head?

I'm not afraid of the atoms,
are you afraid of the atoms?
To you, do they seem to creep up and down the stairs?
Are you surprised when you look only to see nobody there?

I'm not afraid of the atoms,
are you afraid of the atoms?
To you, do they seem to move objects around?
To you, do they make a spooky sound?

I'm not afraid of the atoms,
are you afraid of the atoms?
Would it help you to sleep
if you knew that the same atoms in the room make up you and me?

    Different

this poem is somewhat different from others. and its philosophical outcome is that as atoms continuously shed from ones body it means we get destroyed many bodies in one lifetime.

Thanks. I was trying to get a more optimistic view of the atoms. We don't get destroyed, but we continually get recycled to become new again. It's all in how you look at the process, my friend.

    Oh My Word~~

Now what Inspired this write Beautiful?
It feels like something from the Sci Fi Channel~ where an energy source of unknown origin invades or possibly proves to be a problem...felt the FEAR factor
    flow through the veins
this has a different feel than the other pieces I read~
I was getting that Boogeyman type of heightened energy while readingOy~~

lol. I think I was in a dark humor mood when I wrote this one.
As for the inspiration, I guess it was this thought I had of atoms, like the old atoms are being shed from people and new atoms are always replacing them. So, then I started thinking about atoms as ghosts or spirits. A little strange, I know. My mind works in mysterious ways. lol.

Thanks so much for your comment.

Well done. I think that this would really be a good poem that a science teacher could use to help kids understand the importance of atoms. Great job!

Good job Haley, an excellent descriptive write about atoms. I like the repeating lines at the beginning of each stanza. Thanks for sharing.

lol - this is so spot on and a little dark too
I really enjoyed this one - this write could make the brain cells work and allow realization to set in that 'they' are only as dangerous as we allow them to be
well done on a really good write
