Darfur

Across the night, where angels cry
Copious tears for the pain of a nation.
Land strewn with bodies, children too.
Graves beyond counting, alas, Creation.

Death comes to find the little ones first,
Taking their souls in its wretched hands.
Justifying war and genocide beyond belief,
All over who has the right to the lands.

Or maybe just war for war’s sake alone.
Pride in ancestry - or lust for more blood.
Grieving widows, distraught mothers
Seeing the dying flow like a vicious flood.

Darfur, your blood is soaked into the heart,
A blot on the universe that swallows you.
Instead of asking why these things must be…
Why don’t we ask,  “Let me help, what can I do?”

Such a sad thing... and the worst part about it is that even here there is so much poverty.. yet we have billions of dollars for war.. but we cannot afford to help those in need.. it is a very sad thing indeed. Those poor people in Africa who starve, or have diseases.. such a terrible waste(and we still refuse to help them too) I wish it were that easy to just say to all the people in just the US.. for the millions of people in each state.. $1 per person..and just send it... that would be how many millions of dollars?? yet there are so many people who would not give for the cause... it is sad.. anyhow... I got into this huge discussion.. LOL. This really brought me to tears. I watched American Idol this season and they did like a telethon type thing.. and went there.. and it was just really sad. Thank you for entering mum!! I am glad you wrote this.. and hopefully people will see it and maybe it will help to change their views.

    Love,
    ~Krys~

Such a sad and tragic truth you have written about. It is a shame this still happens in this day and time. Great job. In this line..Grieving windows, distraught mothers..I think the word you meant is..widows..I might be wrong, my fingers get ahead of my brain sometimes or vise versa lol. Good luck in the contest hun.

This poem says all that needs to be said concerning the savagery and futility of war. Very well expressed.
