today I learned
what real love means
when you walked out the door

and you left behind the children
that you said you cherished
and the woman
you said you needed
and my babies asked so innocently
when's daddy coming home, momma?
and I had to answer
truthfully
the day may never come
when he's again in your life
but he loves you as much as I
and that's no lie
you will learn to forgive him
as you grow older
and will understand that he needed you
even though he chose to go

a sad, heartbreaking story. this piece read very honestly - i like how the 'you' tells her children how their father still loves them and as they grow up they will learn to forgive him. really a strong idea. thank you for entering and best of luck in the contest <3
