Poetry

What is a poem
But a song singing softly in a cool summer breeze?
A whisper in your ear,
One that you can barely hear.
A lyric born from the soul.
A silence from the shadows.
An urge,
A temptation,
Uncontrollable lust.
It calls out, unexpectedly,
A whisper in the darkness.
It is a pen
Dancing across the paper.
Color that expresses.
It is sunrise in the morning,
A sunset at dusk,
Or the blaring heat at high noon.
It is a tragedy
It is a comedy
What is a poem?
Poetry.

Author notes

Inspiration: A Pablo Neruda poem (lost the title)

This one I wrote a couple of months ago. It's not by best, but I like it. Definitely one of my deepest I believe. I usually don't think this way. It's just that poetry is just one of those things, I believe, that I will always love, no matter where my life takes me. That's why the poem came out the way it did.

Anyways, like the others, criticism is welcome. I actually encourage it. Just don't get too mean. Okay?
Excellent.

Thanks,

I really enjoyed your whole emotion section. It starts so simple. yet it shows a deep desire for writing

My mom told me poetry is the art of the irraplaceable word... I think thats a pretty awesome definition...

    Nice poem
I like your use of metaphors to create imagery. I like the solid, circular ending. It really rounded it out to make it into a nice piece. Keep penning! I can't wait to read more.

a good piece - aye a poem is a song a song is a poem but with some music added to it. something from the soul yes, even poetry that is not personal poetry still becomes personal it its own right, a lyrical baby we nurture with edit blankets. to me poetry is my everyday. it is fun, even writing the dark mad poems is fun.

This was a good description of a poem. I think you could dig a little deeper and put more soul and emotion into it. I liked it though!

This is a wonderful description of what a poem is. I think it was wonderfully written. Pablo would look at this and smile. I like it that you gave poetry all the dimensions it deserves. Wonderful work. Good luck in the contest.

This is wondeful! I loved the way you described what you thought poetry was. Great punctuation and grammar! I also really like your format and how the words flow together. My favorite line is " A whisper in the darkness", because sometimes, that is how a poem or a line a poem comes to you. Great write!

you know, you say you want criticism, and I am trying so hard to criticize you, but in this particular piece, I just don't see a way that that would be possible. I can't criticize the beginning, nor the end. It is just too, poetic, too perfect. I'm going to suggest that this poem goes on the front page of the lit mag this year. It actually touched me.... sweet.

Really beautiful write and I think many of the ap poetry writers feel like this when they write. I love the second line. You have used a lot of alliteration and it really adds flow nicely without rhyme. Really really good!
