I heard the bell ringing,
After what seemed like an eon.
Many scribbled in their books,
Like there was no tomorrow.
But the most profound of all
My desires, right then,
Was to just get the hell out.
Even a second’s longer wait,
Seemed as arduous as being in labor.
I thrust the answer book in her hand,
And was the first to run out of the hall.
I flung the bag across my shoulder,
And ran down the hallway.
Scurrying down the labyrinthine,
Not daring to pause even for breath,
I almost tripped over my shoelaces,
But no, I didn’t want to stop to tie them now,
As more urgent things were calling.
I dabbed the elevator button thrice,
Only to see it passing right past my floor,
Cursing, I ran up 2 flights of stairs,
Panting, I turned round the corner,
Ah! Finally I was here,
I wanted to cry with joy.
Oh! Cry I did, but not in joy,
I realized the door was locked,
I felt like letting out a blood-curdling scream.
Tears of frustration welled up in my eyes,
HOW could they be so cruel as to lock it!!!
Not being able to run anymore,
I walked aimlessly all the way down,
I had half a mind to forget all embarrassment,
And to just let it all flow.
But sanity told me to control myself,
And I came to a halt at another door.
I swore out aloud when this too was locked,
I kicked so hard that my toes hurt,
This was too much to take, even for me.
God sent indeed was the other door across the floor,
I walked up to it and tried the knob,
Yay! It opened! I pranced around with joy!
That was the most relieving moment
In all my life, for as long as I can remember.
There was this mad glint of strange satisfaction in my eye.
I came out only to see a guy giving me the dirtiest of looks,
And all I had to offer him was a wild and crazy smile.
I’d still love to insist that it was worth all of it.
The board reading ‘gents’ didn’t matter at all to me,
When I was writhing endlessly coz of a full bladder!
