Beauty etched inside my eyelids
more telling and true than the
black white grays of the world.
more real and more raw than the
life death dying of the earth.
Lashes filter filth and hate
and all these eyes see is love.
Perhaps it would be better
to live inside my irises
to stare only at
the perfection
of my own
dreams.
And still my open ears hear
the screams and cries of fear
the dead and dying on the earth.
Still my open arms can feel
the last embrace, frantic appeal
that I open these eyes to their torment.
Can these lids showcase the wonder
of a simple sunrise?
Would these lids recall the shape
of my soul-mates silhouette?
They say eyes are the windows of the soul.
Open them and taste the breeze,
hear the sunshine,
touch the stars.
