Going Native
It started with the way I spoke
So subtle it’s not quite there
A joke, a laugh, and a smile
To forget about my blonde hair.
carrying myself without wonder
walking the streets without fright
Won’t change the color of my skin
But I’m still different in their sight
School girls still giggle as I pass
But flash a smile when I speak
So much more than a tourista
Their eyes are betrayed by a blink
Some surprised, some indifferent
What kind of gringo is this?
They don’t know what to make of me
Well dressed but with hardened fists
Each day goes by as I’m with them
In the streets and in the hills
I’ll always be just a white man
But there’s a lot this skin conceals
Blue eyes, hidden behind Oakley’s
May watch the world from a different view
But they see things far more clearly
Than those that only watch the news

Very good. One suggestion, next time try going controversial. Not saying that this isn't at all controversial, but it isn't.
