Lamentations of the Knife Bearer Part I

Gentle clouds of solitude line up the morning sky
My eyes searcch the heavens effortlessly above
Golden flocks of birds and rainbows stretching high into the vault
My mind is dizzy and my stomach is sick
Inside me the ocean waves toss and turn and threaten to break through
Spilling onto the ground, like the life-blood of yesterday

Through windows I've looked into other nights and seen
Places where I once thought I belonged
Helplessly I fell into a deep pit that seemed to comfort me
And it did, if only for a while

Lone mountains are strong but silent in their own way
Sometimes I wish I knew the secret of those mountains
On Tuesday night I sit and listen to the winds sing their soft lamentation
And I picture their own domains, softly broken from within their own hearts

As the last pieces of the puzzle come together
Parafin lamps light up the hallways of my mind
I slump in my chair and look forward into the whirling clouds
Into the future I can see only faint shadows of what is to come
The here and now evaporates around me and I am lost in a timeless world
Hidden from view, known to none, I sit in silence and watch the world

Echoing through those corridors are things better than before, but I pay no heed
I listen to the lamentations of the winds as they rustle the leaves
And I hear the trees singing, sighing, waving in both gentle breeze and rushing storm

Need we understand the complex desires of those around us?
Emanating from their eyes, they secrelty hope a desire within them
Will walk out into the light and be seen by them
They indulge in their fantasies, as they delude one another with vision of grandeur
The price of grandeur

Author notes

This poem is intensely personal to me... There'll be other additions, of course (hence the Part I) so I'll leave it up to the readers to figure out what exactly it means.
